The Department of Probation and Child Care Services, as part of Sri Lanka’s social welfare system, had just announced a new opening for a Legal Officer within their 2025 recruitment plan. This is a rewarding role in the government which will allow a legal practitioner to help safeguard and promote the welfare of children and other vulnerable people. The successful applicant will hold the position of Legal Officer and will deal with legal issues pertaining to child safeguarding, probation services, and family law. Responsibilities include representing the department in relevant legal matters, preparing legal instruments, advising on case management and child welfare policies, and ensuring compliance with local and international regulations on the rights of children. The candidates should hold a degree in law and be practicing attorneys with a good grasp of family law, administration, and public sector law. This position is permanent with an attractive salary which is paid by the government, in addition to a pension, EPF/ETF contributions, and working for one of the few remaining institutions dedicated to social justice and protection.
